About
The EU-MICRONESIA project is a 36-month initiative designed to reform education and structurally modernize Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Federated States of Micronesia in accordance with Global Gateway Strategy Priorities. The primary aim is to modernize teacher and student training to motivate and prepare them for blue and green careers.
General Objectives
Reforming Education: To introduce a new framework for initial and continuous teacher training that promotes transitions from schools to university and work-related paths in green and blue sectors.
Modernizing the University System: To massively introduce flexible, accessible, and digital courses concerning blue and green careers and entrepreneurship.
Enhancing Work Transitions: To modernize university internships, work-based learning, and the overall transition to work and entrepreneurship in the green and blue economy.
Specific Objectives
Gap Analysis and Competence Modeling: The project measures educational gaps in teachers and motivational gaps in students to define a competence model according to GreenComp for "Transition to Blue and Green Careers".
Digital Accessibility: A core goal is to improve the engagement of university learners from remote islands by implementing 12 new digital courses and an eco-system of 12 micro-credentials.
Industry-Education Alliance: The initiative establishes improved synergies between HEIs and enterprises by introducing principles of the European Green Deal (EGD), Farm to Fork (F2F), and New European Bauhaus (NEB) into the school-to-work transition.
Employability Support: The project aims to increase graduate employment rates by introducing services such as digital career counseling, employer guidelines to attract talent, and the establishment of entrepreneurship hubs.
Practical Capacity Building: The objectives include testing educational reforms through 12-day capacity-building sessions in Pohnpei and Yap, as well as on-the-job training in Italy and Slovakia for Micronesian students and trainers.
Expected Long-Term Impact
By integrating these reforms structurally, the project aims to reinforce the education system’s capacity to promote a knowledge-driven economy based on environmental sustainability. The introduction of micro-credentials and digital platforms will ensure that quality higher education remains accessible to students with fewer opportunities and those living in remote geographical areas.
